Again, the Ocean touches me inside…

Since I came to Portugal, from Angola, I always lived a few km from the beach, and the sea is very important for me as also for the majority of people on earth. If we analyze well, almost everyone likes the sea. There’s people who depend on it to survive, others go there just read a book, sail, enjoy a sunny afternoon with the kids or the dog, etc. There’s many different reasons why people love the sea, but it’s common knowledge that the sea fascinates man. I think that one of the reasons is that the water relates to our thoughts. All the landscapes or scenery related to water, whether it’s a beach, a river, a lake, the ocean, have a special power that make us reflect about our lives and existence.

Today, after one month way from my beloved sea, and being in the middle of the mountains looking to trees everyday (something that I do enjoy), I finally returned to my natural habitat and reunited with the Ocean. Today we took Master Yang to the airport, because is going to San Francisco for a Qigong congress, and after a morning passed in Eureka, we went to Shelter Cove to see the beach. It’s the first time that I went to a beach in US. It’s not the typical Californian beach, but it’s very beautiful. This area is very simple but nice. It’s a small fisherman’s village with only a few houses, a small runway for a small plane, and a nice lighthouse (probably the smallest that I ever saw).

We had lunch there, Fish & Chips, it’s not the best meal of the world but I wanted to try it because I never ate. It wasn’t bad but it’s nothing special. It’s just that, some fried fish with some french fries, really nothing special. The only special thing about it is that the Seagulls love it so much that one of them even stole a piece of my fish. Damn birds!!
I loved to be there watching the sea again, we even had the privilege of seeing some seals swimming and playing on the water. I never had seen a seal in it’s natural habitat. I was very delighted to see them. Nature always knows how to make us feel happy with it’s wonders. Thanks Gaia.
Whenever I look at the sea, I always remember the trips that I did in the Portuguese Navy and also the times that I went to the beach with my friends. The sea is majestic, powerful and enchanting. The constant movement of the water (waves, tides) as well as the global stillness relatively to the land (oceans), forms a fantastic Yin-Yang concept, that reveals the common existence and interdependence between them, and also the basic natural principle of all things. It’s so illogical the effect that the ocean causes on me, that I can’t really understand. The more I live, the more I realize that I don’t know nothing. Life is so simple that we can’t really understand it based on our normal concepts of existence, or at least I can’t.

Maybe the Dao of the Dao is to return to the Dao…
Oceans… let me return home…
